Lesson 15,3 · Values / Needs · Focus — SGL-Certificate

A mirror, not a test

Eleven areas, three colours, and one honest look at who you are becoming. Built from patterns seen across roughly 1,500 supervisory conversations — not a knowledge test, a mirror.

Honesty first
This only works if you mark it the way you actually are, not the way you wish you were.

Three colours, eleven areas

The certificate covers eleven areas, built from patterns Jan Petrus Hagberg has observed across more than 1,500 supervisory conversations with leaders and professionals in genuine self-realisation. Mark each one honestly, in one of three colours:

  • Orange — one of your strongest qualities.
  • Green — solid. It functions well, without being a standout.
  • Indigo — an area you know needs real development.

Mark your eleven areas

One rule from the source assessment: of areas 5 and 7, only one can be orange — pick whichever is truly the stronger of the two.

1. Professional competenceSolid knowledge in a field you find genuinely interesting, and the natural authority to communicate your insight and experience.
2. Result orientationIndependent thinking, a realistic read of the situation, and sound decisions made from a wider view.
3. Ability to change and adaptWilling to risk something and try a new approach, measured against your own goals rather than someone else's scoreboard.
4. Administrative abilityOrganising work in a structured, reliable way — self-discipline and hard work, without getting lost in unnecessary detail.
5. Values beyond myselfGuided by an inner voice — meaning, purpose, or calling — that reaches past personal gain.
6. Intelligent and specialisedA broad understanding paired with real depth somewhere specific, carried in a wider vocabulary than most.
7. Moral and ethical behaviourA good life, guided by public morality, ethical rules, and ordinary custom and practice.
8. Intuitive and openThinking in images, trusting your own judgement, and sensing that what feels right for you may hold meaning for others too.
9. Teams and team-buildingA natural bridge-builder who thrives working with others, and values authenticity and trust above most things.
10. Empathy and sharingSensing the essence of a situation before it's fully said out loud — living by what most people call the Golden Rule.
11. Confidence and trustA grounded self-image, aware of its own shadow side, and willing to ask for help — you are your own message.

Aim for roughly 5–8 orange, 2–4 green, and at least one honest indigo. Your profile builds itself below as you mark.

Once you've marked it

Reading your own profile

The three colours aren't just a tally — they sit in a shape. Your orange picks are your main function, the thing you lead with. Your green picks are the wings either side of it — steady, supportive, not what you're known for. And your indigo pick is the shadow function underneath: the one holding the other three up, whether you look at it or not.

A profile with no shadow marked isn't more finished — it's just less honest.

Main function — mark an orange area above.

Wings — mark a green area above.

Shadow function — mark an indigo area above.

Main function, two wings, and the shadow function underneath — filled in live from what you mark above.

Example profile — Agent JP2

Strongest — 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 11

Solid knowledge, and a real commitment to sharing it — natural authority toward anyone who asks for help. Independent, open to improving, guided more by conscience than by external rules, with a broader vocabulary than most and a self-confidence built on one simple line: “I accept that I am accepted as I am.”

Working well — 4, 7, 8, 9

Manages daily tasks and responsibilities independently and satisfactorily — but is not a natural administrator of documents or finances, and prefers working alongside someone who is. Straightforward and logical, with intuition and team-building as areas of ongoing growth rather than standout strengths.

Needs attention — 10

Empathy — sensing another person's situation before it has been seen, heard, or explained — is not a strong trait here. Once aware of what's happening, though, the commitment and care show up in full.

Your turn

Home Lesson 15,3

Once your eleven areas above feel honest, write a short paragraph in your own words — your orange strengths, your green ground, and the one indigo area you are actually going to work on. Read it out loud to yourself once. That is the whole point of a certificate nobody else grades.
